Desert Island Books

This amazing concept is created by the wonderful ladies at the YA Sisterhood!

If you knew you were going to be stranded on a Desert Island for forever and ever, what books would you take? WHATTTT!? As if THAT isn't hard enough, I can only take 10--TEN!--books (a series counts as one book). Typically it's 5 YA books and 5 Adult books, but I don't read adult, so... only 5 YA books for me!

This was a hard decision to make,  but here they are:

1) The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins

This series is just phenomenal. Seriously. It's my favorite series of all-time. The characters were so real, the world was so real, heck, even the words were so real, I devoured this book again and again and not enough! This series changed my life. It made me realize how much limitations of choices, a self-proclaimed sense of morality and justice, and what a power-hungry society could do to innocent children, what they're willing to do. And the result is entirely thought-provoking and eye-opening. It's the ultimate book that everyone should read.

2) The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. J.K. Rowling has created a world that we can all immerse ourselves in--that we all want to immerse in. Harry Potter is a series for all generations, and I don't think it will ever lose its magic.

3) The Shade trilogy by Jeri Smith-Ready

This series is amazing. It has such amazing characters, a well-developed plot, and Jeri writes with such a style that you can't help but weep or laugh along with the characters. One question: Why doesn't everyone own this book yet?

4) Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Stephanie Perkins composes a story that blew me (and many others) out of my (our) mind(s). Seriously. It's that good. Everything about it was so real, I swear that half the time, I was Anna! This book is romantic and heart-wrenching, and I don't think I could survive on an island without it!

5) The Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter

Man, that was a hard choice! But I love love love Ally Carter, and her books are just so refreshing and just plain cool, this series just had to make the list. If you haven't read it yet... what are you waiting for?!

Very close, honorable mentions: Delirium by Lauren Oliver; The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare; Divergent by Veronica Roth; Matched by Ally Condie; Heist Society by Ally Carter; I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore; The Curse Workers by Holly Black; Firelight and Vanish by Sophie Jordan. The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan.

And that's it! Thanks for tuning in, y'all. Now we shall return to our scheduled programming...

What books would you have chosen?

  1. Great list! I love that you have Gallagher Girls on there! I'm so addicted to that series. It makes me feel like a huge nerd since it's on the young side of YA, and I'm not even a teenager, but I love it!
